Due to TNT’s Sports coverage of the NHL Playoffs, AEW Rampage will once more be relocated in the United States.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, TNT’s coverage of the NHL Playoffs will cause next week’s Rampage on April 28th to be moved up. That week’s Rampage will air at 5:30pm Eastern on Friday night instead of its customary 10pm time slot.
While this news, another in a long line of preemptions due to other sports, is bad news for American audiences, it’s great news for fans in the UK and Europe who ordinarily can’t watch Rampage live because it’s not broadcast ’til 3am. The April 28th timeshift will have the programme beginning at 10:30pm BST (11:30pm CET) which is a lot more sociable. Broadcast on the TNT network stateside, AEW Rampage is simulcast on FITE in the UK.
AEW have seen Rampage preempted a lot recently, with last Friday’s April 14th episode starting 22 minutes earlier than usual because of coverage of the NBA Playoffs. Furthermore, Rampage won’t air on Friday this week since TNT has shifted it to Saturday instead. Due to TNT’s coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and a USMNT game in the CONCACAF Nations League, Rampage was also postponed twice in March.
With talk of a new Saturday night AEW programme on TNT on the way this Summer, we could see a lot more preemption taking place next year.
