Adding more Tag Team Championship acolades to their already swollen résumés, the odd couple pairing of Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships at Fastlane.
Opening WWE Fastlane Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso squared off with, and defeated, the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, Damien Priest and Finn Bálor, The Judgment Day. With the win, Cody is a four time RAW Tag Team Champion and won both the SmackDown Tag Titles and the mantle of an Undisputed Tag Team Champion for the first time. He also held the World Tag Team Championships twice in the days preceding the current titles. Jey Uso begins his second reign as an Undisputed Tag Team Champion and, like his new partner, this is Jey Uso’s fourth reign with the RAW Tag Team Titles. As for the SmackDown belts, Uso has held them six times in his career.
The contest began with Uso and Priest imposing their strength on one another with collar and elbow tie-up struggles and shoulder tackles. Despite some early teamwork and quick tags between Rhodes and Uso, Priest imposed his superior size to overpower Jey and tag in Bálor. The frequent tags continued across both teams, as each looked to build some momentum, but it would be the Judgment Day that would gain the first advantage, isolating Jey Uso away from his partner. Rhodes would attempt to engage the crowd and fire up Uso and, after a short period of frustration on the apron, the hot tag was made and the American Nightmare returned to the match.
As the two former members of Bullet Club, Rhodes and Bálor, exchanged offense, Cody caught Finn on the top turnbuckle and Rhodes took things back down to the mat with an impressive delayed Superplex. This allowed Jey Uso back into the match where he was able to avoid the doom of a Razor’s Edge and take out both of his opponents with a dive to the outside. Following up with an Uso Splash, Jey received a nearfall but Bálor was on hand to break up the pin. Channelling his inner Tribal Chief, Jey Uso hit a spear on Priest but the arrival of Dominick Mysterio and Rhea Ripley distracted Uso from finishing the match. Following a Coup-de-Grace from Bálor, Cody Rhodes was forced to break up the pinfall attempt and keep the match alive.
The match descended into chaos and JD McDonagh joined the Judgment Day entourage at ringside. Looking to end things, Ripley nailed Jey Uso with the Money in the Bank briefcase but, against the odds, Uso kicked out. With Priest and Rhodes fighting on the announce table, McDonagh looked to make an impact but did so in the worst possible way, accidentally striking at the damaged knee of Señor Money in the Bank with his own briefcase. This error allowed Rhodes to tag in and, after an improvised double team mashup of the Cody Cutter and the 1D, Cody hit Cross Rhodes and pinned Finn Bálor to crown NEW Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.
